Mailbox Replacements - Don’t Let your Community Down
Replacing a mailbox is something which many people take their time getting round to. It can be a significant expense, and even if that’s not an issue, finding a suitable model and getting it installed is time consuming.
It can be hard to fit into your busy routine. But broken and unsightly mailboxes don’t just represent a problem for you - they can be a problem for your whole community.
Because they normally stand so close to the curb, fallen mailboxes can be a real hazard for traffic, especially in wintry conditions when drivers might not see them in time.
Sometimes mailboxes fall over at night or are knocked over by heavy snowfall. This means that you might not realise there’s a problem until somebody has an accident. It’s your duty to make sure that your mailbox post is in good condition so that this doesn’t happen.
Don’t just ignore a rotten or termite infested post in the hope that the problem will go away. It’s up to you to buy the necessary chemical treatments and sealants, or to replace your mailbox post with a plastic or metal one which won’t be as vulnerable to damage.
Free standing mailboxes can also be vulnerable to damage, especially by vehicle impact. If masonry crumbles loose at the base of your brick mailbox, get a stonemason to look at it as soon as possible.
Failure to do so could result in the whole thing collapsing, presenting a hazard to passers-by as well as costing you big bucks to replace.
Even where a damaged mailbox is not actually hazardous, it can present problems for your community. Because mailboxes are amongst the first things visitors see when they enter a neighbourhood, unsightly ones can significantly lower the value of properties there. It’s your responsibility to find the money to replace your mailbox, because your neighbours may not be able to afford for you to neglect it.
