With Vandal-Resistant Mailboxes it’s All in the Making
Most mailboxes, especially those incorporated within any and all business environment, are made out of soldered metal with access secured by either small openings or heavy duty locking mechanisms. Many common mailbox locking mechanisms include timers, key inserts and combination locks. While some homeowners may think a locking mailbox is ridiculous, considering the skill and determination of many vandals and intruders in circulation, such precautions seem not only necessary but also effective.
Considering the importance of safety and privacy in the current day, all mailboxes (especially commercial mailboxes) are virtually vandal-resistant mailboxes. This is extremely practical, as mail represents the individual’s identity and often contains personal information an identity theft could use to commit their crimes. Personal protection is never an overreaction.
While getting a locking mailbox is one way to combat mail crimes, another newly considered practice to deter vandalism for home mailboxes is to remove them from the curb and relocate them closer or appended to the home in question. This serves more of an inconvenience to the mail carrier but more importantly, the solution reduces the possibility and ease of any outside entity from damaging or intruding upon one’s mail.
Often, homeowners can feel more secure in knowing they can keep an eye on their mailbox. Although the factor of intrusion isn’t nil with this resolution, the increased feeling of security means everything. Of course, in most areas the placement of the mailbox is already predetermined and a change in placement would need to be received via prior approval from the United States Post Office.
