Whether they are sitting by the road or connected to the home, home owners are choosing to use more and more unique mailboxes than ever before.

So long as the homeowner’s distinctive mailbox still satisfies the requirements set forth by the USPS, there is absolutely no end to the kind of mailbox you can feature at your home.

Initially, plastic covers began showing up as coverings for conventional mailboxes. However, as people dreamed of being more inventive with their roadside designs, mailboxes began showing up as a variety of animals, and crafted designs.

Strange mailboxes can even be replicas of useful things, like a car or fire truck. In addition, many unusual mailboxes feature the homeowner’s favorite breed of dog or even zoo animals.

About the sole limit on one of a kind and unusual mail boxes is the homeowner’s imagination. Homeowners do not need to have any skills for making their own mail box, as a brand new industry has emerged in making their desire for a rare mailbox becoming reality.

Keep in mind, before you buy a unique mailbox it is critical to ensure it meets USPS regulations. If it does not, your letter carrier possibly will not deliver your mail.

In its place will be a short note advising you your mail has been returned to the local post office where it will be readily available for pick up up until you install an acceptable mailbox. There are various companies that offer mailboxes of uncommon designs and most of those organizations ensure that their designs all meet those polices.

Naturally, you can take a weekend to construct your own personal unique mailbox.

Mail boxes, like those designed to look like big mouth bass, whose mouth opens for the mail or the ones that look like a host of other animals, motor vehicles or replicas of the homeowner’s house, could add a certain flair to your scenery. Of course, you should undoubtedly ensure the mailbox does fit with the outside style of your home, when possible.

For instance, when you have an extremely modern home but a fascination for the Old West, it will be unreasonable to assume a Wild West mail box would suit your home’s outside design. Real estate agents might tell you this is only an issue if you are trying to sell your home, however.

Furthermore, talk with your Home Owner’s Association to make sure changing your mailbox will not be a problem.

If you want to stand out from the crowd, unusual and unique mailboxes can allow you to do so in a very easy and subtle way.

However, as long as you follow the basic rules of installing your mailbox between 6” and 8” from the curb, between 41” to 45” high and get a USPS approved mail receptacle, you can decorate it almost however you’d like. Of course, there are some exceptions.

So, before you choose to do any type of customization, you may want to check with your local postmaster to be sure what you’re planning will fit within their regulations and restrictions.

Custom Mailbox Lettering

One way you can customize your mailbox is with custom mailbox lettering. Many people choose to put their last name on their mailbox, with pre-printed sticker letters they can easily find at most home improvement stores.

However, the selection of lettering is quite limited at these locations. Most often, you can get silver or gold tone letters to peel off and use to create your last name on your box.

Today there are companies all over the world offering more customized lettering for your mailbox. You can choose from hundreds of lettering fonts and colors online and have the stickers shipped to you so you can apply them to your mailbox.

Custom Mailbox Numbers

Much like the custom mailbox lettering, you can also get decorative mailbox address numbers in sticker form. Instead of the boring white, silver or gold numbers found in most mailbox areas of the home improvement store closest to you, you can get artistic fonts and colors of your house number. This can help you add charm and personality to your mailbox, without exerting too much effort or investment.

Custom Decals And Mailbox Covers

If you want to add even more pizzazz to your mailbox, you can always choose to personalize or customize it with custom decals and mailbox covers. Decals are a less expensive way to add your own personal touches to a mailbox.

Many people choose to use decals to showcase their favorite sporting team, hobby or job (such as firefighting or other notable profession). The decals can easily be placed on the side of the mailbox, without having to detach the mailbox in any way.

If you’d like to have more decoration or would like to change your mailbox decorations often, it’s best to opt for decorative mailbox covers. These handy covers can be slipped off and on, easily.

Often, homeowners will change them for the seasons or for specific holidays. For instance, some homeowners will have a different mailbox cover for Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Easter, 4th of July, Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas. This allows them to decorate their mailbox much like they might decorate the exterior of their home for each holiday.

When you customize your mailbox to match the charm of your personality or home, you’ll get satisfaction knowing it reflects what you love. You can easily customize any mailbox by using custom mailbox lettering, custom mailbox numbers, custom mailbox decals or custom mailbox covers.

As we continue into the 21st century, there are definite mailbox trends moving forward with us. For example, people are no longer happy with just the standard black or gray wall mount mailbox that attaches to the front of their house or the black and gray rural mailbox that has been the only choice for many years.

People are looking for more choices in the styling of their mailboxes, a need which has also created a new trend in mailbox accessories. The needs of sometimes been necessitated as a result of security issues while other trends are created for nothing more than convenience and style preferences.

One of the most popular mailbox accessories which have been a part of the industry for the past several decades are mailbox locks. Many people have purchased new mailboxes with locks, but others have chosen to add locks to units they already own. The manufacturers of mailboxes have also had to change the way the do business, thus allowing the addition of locks to mailboxes.

Since some people do not live where they have a security issue such as in secure gated communities, there are still some areas where locks on mailboxes are more of an inconvenience than the security a lock would provide. However, with the threat of identity theft being more terrifying than ever before in history, mailbox locks are extremely popular, much to the disappointment of mail thieves.

While mailbox locks have been around for a few years, the newest of the mailbox accessories is likely to be the newspaper holder. For those who have rural mailboxes, it is more convenient to attach a newspaper holder to their mailbox instead of having to install a newspaper holder on a separate post.

Since postal regulations forbid anything other than material initiated through the United States Post Office to be placed into a mailbox, it is necessary to have a separate enclosure for newspapers and other non-postal materials.

The newspaper holder is an accessory that can be attached the mailbox instead of being on a separate post next to the actual mailbox. In addition, some of the newest mailboxes do come with attached mailbox holders which make it very convenient for homeowners to have their mail and newspaper delivered in one general area.

Again, there has become an increased need in mailbox accessories, especially locks and other security features attached to mailboxes due to the ongoing problem Americans are having with mail fraud and identity theft.

As time goes by it is likely there will be more mailbox accessories available including emblems for various causes and a variety of flags which separate the newest mailboxes from the standards we now see. People desire to become more creative even in mailbox accessories, and as such manufacturers must be ready and willing to cater to those needs if they wish to retain their customer bases.

So, they are! They are looking at mailbox designs not only as something which needs to keep mail safe and secure but also as a direct reflection of the homeowner’s identity and personality.

If you own a metal mail receptacle, you know at times they can be a bit drab. With the help of magnetic mailbox covers, however, you can turn drab to fab in no time at all. Best of all, since these mailbox covers are pre-measured to fit standard sized mail receptacles, there is no need to shop around, measure or trim. Instead, with a few snaps these covers spruce up even the oldest, least decorative looking boxes.

Of course, to properly appreciate the beauty of mailbox covers it is noteworthy there are mailbox covers for every occasion. Whether you are looking for a little something to celebrate the holidays or for a special seasonal display, with interchangeable mailbox covers you have the opportunity of changing your yard’s or entry way’s façade as often as you like.

Even better, since mailbox covers are inexpensive, you can always have a brand-new look to your mail receptacle even the box itself has been around for years. Many homeowners incorporate these magnetic covers into their garden art and in some cases also augment their exterior decorating scheme to be in line with their newly found decor.

Occasionally these covers have even been used to turn a metal mail box into a bit of interior furniture which adds a touch of whimsy to a change in decor. At times they serve as planters, newspaper holders or even as fanciful breadboxes! Is it not time you took another look at the mailbox covers you could put on your tired looking mailbox?

Most homeowners think about stating their address numbers on their home. However, they don’t often think about the visibility of their address from the road. Some homes have poorly maintained address numbers, which can make it quite difficult to find the right home when visiting.

Curbside decor and address markers have many benefits. They can help visitors locate your home and provide instant curb appeal. Take a look at the following benefits curbside decor and address markers offer a homeowner.

1. Emergency Identification: If someone in your home has a medical emergency, you’ll likely call 9-1-1. However, without your home’s address being clearly marked with an address marker the rescue crew may take additional time to find your home. When someone is ill, even minutes can make the difference between life and death. Thus, your home should be clearly marked with your address at all times.

2. Curbside Protection: Those who live in unlit areas or in curves can utilize curbside decor for property protection. Optical reflective road curb markers can help cars stay away from running off the road onto your lawn. They are often made of toughened glass which can exceed over 35 tons. Most often they require no maintenance and a long life span.

3. Decoration: Homeowners who want to add to the flair of their home can use decorative address markers to set their curb appeal theme. To find the perfect style, you should look at your home’s design and choose a curbside decoration or address marker that matches the current style of your home. For instance, if you live in a log cabin you wouldn’t want to get a Spanish style address marker.

We are no longer affiliated with NetIchange, a.k.a MailboxIxchange. We are very sorry that this relationship deteriorated, but Mr. Seldana left us NO CHOICE, and we had multiple ongoing problems with their system:

Initial attempts last summer at getting their RSS feed working were unsuccessful, requiring over 15 hours of our programming to “fix” their feed.

A month later, they re-engineered their website, and the technicians idiotically changed all of their product ID numbers so the feed no longer worked. Instead of send people to the correct products, they were sent to completely different items. Incredible, but we slogged through yet another manipulation of their feed to get our site working again.

Although a dedicated 800 number was offered in initial conversations, after all was working, we were then told that it couldn’t be done. A minor detail, but since we didn’t get paid for phone orders, it added up.

The typical cookie offered in the affiliate world was ignored, and sales were “disallowed” entirely if they determined that the customer had visited their website too, or if they had ever bought from them before.

in one particular month, over $1200 in commission was reversed due apparently to improper crediting phone orders to us, (huh?) and from pre-existing customers buying through our links instead of their own. That was the “I should have seen it coming” moment I refer to below.

At the outset of our arrangement last summer, affiliate payments came within 10 days of the end of the month, but got later and later, dragging on past 45 days in January, only after multiple requests for payment required.

Even now at this writing, his affiliate page shows commissions available up to 12%, he continued to deny that there was anything available higher than 10%, and even cracking 20k in sales wouldn’t get us bumped.

The final blow came when we were told on a moments notice that we could cease using their affiliate feed and go to static .html links (an impossible task) or have commissions cut in half.

We are now continuing to seek out other vendors of mail products, and will never again put “all our eggs in one basket”. We will continue forward undaunted in our quest to become the number one resource on the web for mail and identity theft products and services.

What follows below, is the entire email thread (read from the bottom up) that led to this dissolution, with only my contact info snipped out. I’m posting this here so others affiliates can be aware of what happened, and because David said the remaining money owed us will be paid “some time in the future”. Fine.

You know what, since you want to accuse me of committing some kind of deception, which I take very personally and have never done, I am just going to shut your account off, effective immediately. As for any payments that are due to you, you will get them some time in the future.

Okay David… For the record, I think this is unfortunate, but its your business to run as you wish.

How fortunate you are that in this economy, you apparently dont need my 15 – 20 k in monthly sales.

Your inability to give us a good data feed and to accurately track traffic is something i COULD have tried to work with, and we jumped through all of your hoops attempting to do so.

However, for you to now tell me with no notice that this is “effective immediately”, and to cut my commission in half, is totally unacceptable.

Furthermore, to pay late for the past two months in a row only after i repeatedly had to ask for payment is ridiculous.

I should have seen the writing on the wall back in October, when a large percentage of sales began getting disallowed as “mistakes”, and your payments started coming later and later.

I’ll continue to investigate other options for the site immediately, and as soon as i find something, we’ll get your name and products off the site just as soon as possble.

In the meantime, i’ll expect full payment for January’s sales before the final day of February per our prior agreeement.

I’ll assume just a 5 percent commission past February 3rd, but i’ll try to minimize any sales just as fast as humanly possible.

Sorry things didnt work out. Best of luck…

As I stated before, you do not need to change to the html site.

And yes, this is effective immediately. If you want to change the structure immediately, that is your decision.

If you switch over to the other site, your commissions will probably decrease by half anyway, because it will be structured as it should have been from the beginning. Of course these are estimates, it could go down by a lot more, After I did some research I realized it could go down as much as 2/3 rds, but again, this is the way it should be……whoever “touches” the customer first will get the commission.

You can still send visitors to the php site, its just that with the other program, I can add parameters to our html links. so you can continue sending traffic to php, and I can send traffic to html site.

I would estimate your commission to be cut in half anyway, when this happens.

This is effective immed.

We have looked into changing our link structure. Unfortunatly because you choose to send traffic to the .php site, and we send traffic to the html pages, there is no way for us to record “touching the customer first”. For a long time I have overlooked that, but that time is over. I am giving you two options:

1. We cut your commission in half and leave everything as is.
2. You go back to the other system, where we can add our tracking code to our ads.

The decision is yours to make.

Are you the type of person who loves to stand out in a crowd? If so, chance are you don’t want your home to look like every other house on the block. If you want to add some quick and easy flair to your curb, consider adding a hand painted mailbox to your property. Since your landscaping can be used to show your personality, so can your mailbox.

If you’re artistic you can always choose to paint your own scene or design on your box. However, most homeowners choose to purchase a pre-painted mailbox. If you do decide to paint your own box, be sure to do it with the mailbox door open. Don’t close the door until the box has completely dried or you may find you’ve painted the door together permanently! Hand painted mailboxes are available with various scenic pictures, sports logos, floral designs and any other design you could possibly dream up.

Like any other decorative mailbox, you must always ensure your hand painted mailbox fits into the lengthy and strict list of USPS mailbox regulations. Most of the rules don’t apply directly to the color or design your mailbox has. Instead, the rules generally apply to the type of mailbox (size, height). Thus, most often you can paint whatever you’d like on your box and still be within regulation.

Those who are interested in artistic backyard decor can also use hand painted mailboxes as yard decoration, instead of for the practical purpose of holding mail. Homeowners have used them as bird houses and planters as well!

If you’re looking for commercial mailboxes, chances are you may feel a bit overwhelmed about what type to ultimately purchase. Most often commercial mailboxes are used for businesses, multi-unit residential areas (apartments, duplexes) or college dorm areas.

There are multiple types of commercial mailbox systems, depending on what the buyer is planning to do with the mailboxes. Commercial mailboxes are often great choices due to their high-quality construction and security options. Three of the most common commercial mailbox types are listed below, to help buyers narrow down their possibilities.

Horizontal Mailbox Systems

If you have a limited area of space for mailbox use, you may want to consider a horizontal mailbox system. These systems can be mounted to any wall and include numerous small mailbox boxes. The boxes are lockable and include keys. Most often these types of systems are found in dorms or office buildings.

Cluster Mailbox Systems

If you are in need of an outdoor mailbox system, you may want to consider a commercial cluster mailbox organization unit. Cluster outdoor units are designed to be freestanding and require no wall for mounting. Each cluster has a specified number of lockable mailbox cubbies. These cubbies are stacked upon one another and connected by one standard pole system. Many apartment complexes utilize the cluster system for resident mailboxes.

Vertical Mailbox Systems

If your office or establishment gets a great deal of larger mail items, you may want to think about installing a vertical mailbox system. They offer more space to users and can be mounted to a wall. Much like the horizontal systems, they too can be locked. However, the extra length and space they provide can be great for those expecting packages.

With a few simple instructions and a little time, almost anyone can successfully install residential mailboxes. The first step is to think about where you’ll place the box.

You may want to check with the USPS for any guidelines regarding box placement in your area. They have strict regulations and can require you to move the box if you don’t follow their rules.

Next, you’ll need to gather your materials. Buy a mailbox that can withstand any type of weather. While a metal box may be less expensive, it may also require more upkeep if it rusts. Many people are choosing to go with the plastic residential mailboxes.

You’ll also need to buy a few posts (one for the mailbox to rest upon and one that anchors it into the ground. Also, be sure you choose a mailbox with predrilled holes so you can ensure you can perfectly line it up on the post.

Dig your hole and fill it with concrete. Place your anchor post into the hole and allow it to set overnight. Be sure you’re doing this project in dry weather, or your concrete may not set correctly. The next day you can secure the shorter post to your anchor post and then secure your mailbox to the shorter post.

Installing your own residential mailbox is a very simple job, once you have the materials you need. Not only can it save you money, but you’ll feel great knowing you did it yourself.

However, with a little patience it can be quite easy! You first need to consider an area for your new mailbox. Look for one that’s both easily reachable and also adheres to the strict regulations laid out by the United States Postal Service. If these rules and regulations are not adhered to, you could be subjected to a fine by the government.

You also want to consider the area around your location. It may be a nice place to put a mailbox or convenient, but will you have to trudge through four inches of water to get your mail during the rainy season. Also consider the types of materials you are using.

A plastic mailbox may be less expensive than a metal one, but it may not withstand harsh weather conditions in your area. Or, it may be more prone to leak and ruin your mail. If you have the option of choosing a mailbox with predrilled holes or ones that you drill yourself, always go for the predrilled. This ensures your box is less likely to leak than ones you are required to drill.

It is also important you keep the instructions handy on how to set your post for the mailbox and how to attach the actual box. These can help you with any trouble shooting that you may have. Before you begin the process, you should also make sure you have all of the necessary tools for installation. This will ensure you do not have to stop in the middle and drive to the store for some missing piece.

One of the most popular new trends in mailboxes is the mailbox with a newspaper holder attached. Often, a traditional mailbox will have a covered area underneath the actual mail receptacle. This area is often just large enough for a newspaper to be securely placed in it, offering a new innovative solution in newspaper delivery.

Benefits For The Homeowner

The main benefit of using a mailbox with a newspaper holder for the homeowner is the protection it offers. A mailbox with a newspaper holder will keep the paper dry, even in the worst weather. Sure, it may be a bit less convenient to walk to the mailbox to get the morning paper. However, if you loathe a wet paper, it may be worth the extra few steps you’ll take. Of course, if your newspaper delivery person has a problem getting the paper to the porch on most days, having them place it in the mailbox with the newspaper holder may be the best overall choice.

In addition, your newspaper person will be glad they no longer are forced to walk your paper to your door. It saves them time and prevents them from making location mistakes.

With a newspaper holder attached to your mailbox, you’ll never need to go on a “paper hunt” again. The delivery person won’t have the opportunity to throw your paper in the bushes or anywhere else. Your door will never been broken again, due to a hefty throw. Instead, you’ll always know exactly where to find your morning paper!

Personalized house signs are popping up outside more and more homes! Available in many different styles and types, homeowners are flocking to this house accessory for its functional and decorative purposes. Personalized house signs can include a variety of information including the home’s address, last name of the homeowner and street name. Personalized house signs are quite decorative. But, they have many other purposes as well.

House signs and address plaques serve a larger purpose than as simply decorative accessories. Emergency professionals often suggest house signs to homeowners because they clearly mark the home. In case of an emergency, it can be vital for your address to clearly show so the emergency personnel can reach you in the fastest time possible. In fact, studies show address plaques help police and firefighters to find your home a few minutes faster than if your home didn’t have a plaque. Thus, in emergency situations, every minute counts!

When ordering your personalized house sign, be sure to keep it simple. Think about the style of writing you choose for your sign. You should choose a medium to large sized letter type and be certain the style of lettering is easy to read. Otherwise, it will be useless!

In addition, when choosing the style and material your personalized house sign is made of, think about your home’s overall style. Choose a material that can withstand your area’s weather. In addition, choose a style that will match your home’s décor. It should ultimately add to your home instead of distracting away from it. Providing beauty and function (at a low cost), personalized house signs are a great investment.

A classically beautiful a href=”http://www.securitymailbox.com/items/categories/” target=_blank >mailbox can add sophistication to your home’s exterior. However, any mailbox is vulnerable to destruction without a sturdy mailbox post. Most mailbox posts can be purchased already constructed. They are often made of composite material or of wood. Composite posts are made of material that is nearly indestructible.

It will not rust, warp or split. There is also no risk of termites with composite mailbox posts. Another popular option is the steel or metal a href=”http://www.securitymailbox.com/items/categories/?prod=Mayne-Mailbox-Posts” target=_blank >mailbox post. These posts are very durable. However, they can easily rust and often require yearly painting.

While many people buy already constructed posts, other people choose to make their own mailbox posts with wooden posts. To install a mailbox post, you should dig a hole (approximately six inches deep). After the hole is created, you must fill it partially with wet, mixed concrete. While the concrete mix is still wet, the mailbox post should be inserted down into the hole and held until the concrete sets.

Whether you decide to go with a pre-constructed composite post or decide to create your own using lumber, you should find a mailbox post that is sturdy. This is especially true if you live in a rural area.

Those homes located on busy streets or within the curve of a road should take extra caution in choosing their post, due to possible car accidents. Overall, the sturdiness of the post will determine how much damage your actual mailbox gets, should an accident of any kind occur.

Address plaques are small plaques or signs that contain your home’s address. Often homeowners choose to also include their last name on the plaque. Some come with only the numerical portion of the address, while others spell out the entire street name in addition. These plaques are quite decorative, but they have many other purposes as well.

The number one reason people choose address plaques is because they find them decorative. Many homeowners order luxurious plaques out of metals or stones. They can be quite expensive. However, adding this simple décor to your yard can instantly increase your home’s curb appeal.

While address plaques are beautiful, they also serve a more vital purpose. When your address is clearly shown and marked with an address plaque, emergency vehicles can identify your location more quickly. It is a known fact address plaques can save minutes on their arrival time. And in life threatening situations minutes can make a huge difference!

The best thing to remember when ordering an address plaque is to keep it simple. Use a large sized letter and choose an easy-to-read font style. It would be pointless to choose a letter style no one could read or understand. Also, think about what type of material can best withstand your state’s climate. Choose the plaque material based on what works best for your home’s décor, your personal taste and the weather.

Overall, address plaques are a fantastic addition to any home. They provide beauty and functionality, at an overall low cost to the homeowner.
